The lua script could be malicious but it isn't going to spread on its own like a virus. On a game like this, you are not likely at all to find actual hackers working on viruses in Lua. What you might find is the occasional script kiddie troll who thinks he is funny writing some malicious lua. Stuff like fork bombs, etc.

Still better off to tell him than not at all. I have never used a lua script, but been here for a long time. Seen people complain of getting viruses, and make viruses. If memory serves me right someone made a mod. It was a virus and the person did it intentionally. You're possibly right, but like I said, it's still better off to warn users of using lua scripts. I recommend using jacob1's lua scripts.

I agree with ChargedCreeper, there's never been an instance of an actual virus in a Lua script. The worst thing is exactly like ChargedCreeper said, a legit Lua script which had a "function" where it created infinite popup windows in tpt that you couldn't dismiss. It was initially approved on the script manager but I later edited that part out (and I'm not sure why I ever approved it).
There was also an irc client once with a backdoor, but it was quickly noticed and wasn't abused (and the author is trustworthy anyway)

There definitely have been cases of c++ mods containing viruses. Usually it's through a Powder.exe that isn't actually powder toy at all. That's usually pretty obvious, because it won't have TPT's icon and won't be the right filesize. I think once, someone did put a virus into a modified powder toy, this was reported and the mod was removed. We require all mods have source code posted so that users can compile mods themselves. Also since there are barely any new c++ mods these days, any new ones are usually always run through virustotal / checked for viruses. I also offer to compile most new mods on my build server.

I think it's both errors in code and people being dishonest about their intentions. Sometimes the person or persons don't mean it, but like I said their are devious people out there.
