Weird Low FPS Mac Glitch?

Hey guys, I got a new Macbook pro recently and using TPT has been sluggish to say the least. When in standard view, the games runs 30ish fps, and in double screen mode it runs 10ish fps. This is way worse than my old macbook (which had half the RAM and was a Duo Core instead of Quad).

What's weird is that, on the same computer, when I have the TPT Window opened in my BENQ monitor, the games runs 55+ FPS consistently. The Fps drops back to 10fps when I drag the window back to my laptop screen.

It's weird, and unplayable without my monitor. Any help would be greatly apperciated.

Is it a Retina Macbook? It might be doing some sort of pixel duplication to show things at a decent size on a screen that dense...

edit: this is my 5555th forum post, celebrate!

it is! I am using the double screen size mode. I´m figuring it´s trying to run too high of graphics maybe? It ran competly fine on my old computer with the same settings :(

    That's unfortunate ):

I don't know how to fix it, maybe SDL 1.2.15 or SDL 2 has a fix for that. But probably not, since the way we draw to the screen isn't how SDL is really intended to be used ...

A build with the newer SDL 1.2.15 is here, I can't think of anything else: http://starcatcher.us/TPT/ . Maybe eventually we will switch to SDL 2, but I would need access to the build server since keeping SDL 1.2 compatibility at the same time as SDL 2 is too ugly / difficult.

I just figured out a fix for it!

For all mac users out there with the Retina Display:

Go to the POWDER folder -> Right Click the powder application -> Get Info -> Checkbox the 'Open In Low Resolution' button.  There's an apple guide to it here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202471

The game runs perfect now. Twice as fast as my old computer. Hope this helps, I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

Cool, I wonder if we can detect that and recommend to change the setting when you start up the game.

With the new OS update Sierra, this no longer works. I’ve tried everything. running latest TPT, 10 FPS. 2017 MacBook Pro with touchbar. it worked fine on my old laptop, before I updated that as well which was a mistake.

That's unfortunate if the Mac version is no longer working properly. I'll keep releasing new versions, but consider the Mac version "unsupported" unless a mac developer comes along and wants to help us fix it
