I want to use FILT but I'd like it to stay a color I set it to. however, every time a photon goes through it warms it and changess the color. I can't just paint it as it doesn't seem to obey decorations either. is there a way I can prevent FILT from being changed by anything other than the "HEAT"/"COOL" tools?

Now this is strange, PHOT is not able to change the color of FILT. Only HEAT, COOL and PROT can according to my research. You CAN paint FILT.

You must be doing something wrong.

Anything touching the FILT will transfer heat if it has heat conductivity

i think you can do a tmp thing and make it (set colour) look at the official game feedback thread to see the tmp modes of filt and do the set color one, will probably work.

Actually, all tmp modes are adressed in the wiki:
    https://powdertoy.co.uk/Wiki/W/Elements:Solids.html#Filter
But I think they are somewhat unrelated to @zBuilder's query.

I can paint filt just fine,it's just that the paint doesn't effect the color of the photons.

I guess photons are hitting something touching the FILT then

I know of the TMP types, and setcolor is the default.

There is a way, by setting ctype. Then it uses the color in the ctype instead of using the one based off the temperature.

I'm not sure how to set the ctype though ... or see what it should be. It's normally only set when PHOT passes by DTEC, it sets the color in a straight line (I think). This is a very new feature though

you said.....sigh......first you said you had the filt changing colors, now you say the filt isn't painting? Those are two COMPLETELY different problems.....
