Random server shutdown?

I was wondering why the powder toy website and server were down this morning. Did the developer do maintenance while it was down or was it a error that had to make the servers shutdown?

The admin didn't renew the domain due to some bug that caused it to not automatically be renewed. It is fixed now. The server was available by IP the entire time

(I was going to make a MotD about it but I couldn't connect to the database without the internal dns ...)

Please read the post more carefully. The bug was claimed to be on Namecheap's side, not our side. As for the 502 Gateway errors, we've been working on trying to figure out why they happen unexpectedly after site edits. The site itself rarely experiences outages for dedicated maintenance where it actually requires said downtime.

I don't think it's a bug but rather the worst auto renew - where the domain auto renew works just fine, it's actually a premium DNS service that simply expires without warning and then they automatically clear the nameserver config, which means after I realise what's happened and resolve the issue, everyone has to wait for repropagation >:(.

I'm also 90% sure I did turn on Autorenew for the DNS service after the same thing happened to tpt.io several months ago.

I'll be finding a new registrar, as there's other annoying problems too.

Is that actually you? Ok I know it's you, I hope you find a new registrar.

After re reading it again I understand now, can someone remove my previous comment?

Sounds great, I was even going to ask if I could just have the registration myself >_>. Hopefully you find a better registrar that doesn't have the same issue.

You can remove it yourself. This wasn't planned downtime, if there is planned downtime in the future, you will be notified (likely through a forum post or a MotD in game)

Gotta love that BGP, Looks like we just got back into full working order, tpt.io is good, save database can be accessed with client and I can access the website directly and not just through tpt.starcatcher.us

Could you do me a favor and tell me if the IP for the webserver is static? I figured I should have it saved in my dns cache permanently if this happens again. also lucky you that somneone didn't buy the domain before the issue was discovered and fixed.

Domains have grace periods where no one can buy the domain for 'x' number of days.
