There used to be ads?

    I never remember any ads on the TPT forums, but recently I was looking at old TPT from 2011 and saw corner text saying "Please don't block the ads :(", and a user in November 2010 posted a thread called "Powder toy poem" (please dont necro it), whcih included the lines- "Powder Toy is cool
    It is great
    When it is free
    But why the ads are here?"
    which implies the TPT forum had ads, and a 2017 forum (please don't necro it) post called "Have you blocked the ads for this site?" Mentioning oversized ads at the top of the screen. Also, a post from November 2010 called "Clickin for Simon" (PLEASE DONT NECRO) telling users to mass click the ads to make money for the website, which was really the final piece of evidence I needed. When did these end? Or were there no ads at all and this was one long lasting weirdly common big inside joke? (Because wayback machine doesn't show ads on snapshots even if there were ads on the real website)

     The ads where in the upper right corner, nothing annoying. To be honest I'd report the ads :P (lol).

    There was a banner ad on the site a while back. It was a single banner, in the space above the navbar where your username is. It was pretty harmless, not one of those annoying ads. It was there for years, and if you blocked it you got a message "Please don't block the ads ):" in its place.

    Around the time Simon gave me additional management access over the server, he removed the ad. I've heard conflicting things from him on whether or not that ad made a lot of money. I feel like it couldn't have made much, but apparently it made a notable dent in the server costs.

    I don't like ads and encourage everyone to block ads. If Simon wants to add it back he's free to, but if I ever start paying for server costs instead of Simon, I have no plans to run ads.

    also when was it removed, my hypothesis is around 2018-2020

     It was removed around late 2022 or early 2023, if I recall properly.
