96.1 breaking the game

I just started up the game to test something after watching a video, and it told me that I was outdated and needed to update. Upon updating, the game crashed. The file to start the game turned into something called a PREF file that could not be opened (so I deleted it.. hopefully this doesn't cause any problems). I redownloaded the game, and if I extract the files again, then run it, the game starts for a brief second, crashes, and the file to start it deletes itself or something. Just gone. The same thing happens if I don't extract it and run it anyways, but the file to start it stays. The readme and license also seem to be damaged. Blank lines between lines? Seperation between paragraphs? They disappear, and the entirety of the document becomes a single paragraph. This seems like a very recent update, and I have no idea if this is happening to others or just me. I don't really use the forums at all, and I probably wont reply to replies, but I'm still posting this just in case it is happening to everyone.

The same thing is happening to me, but i am not sure if the game file tuned into a PREF file or if this file was already there and the game just uninstalled

edit: I just noticed that my antivirus had uninstalled the game, so the game didn't turn into a .pref file, the file is created when you first open the game, my antivirus just uninstalled it. You can go to your antivirus and search for a notification about the game or a section called "quarentine" where the game file will probably be, and create an exeption for the game

Are you sure that's 96.1 and not 96.0? 96.1 doesn't depend on glibc 2.29. Also, not quite the right thread, but that's not your fault but the OP's. In any case, I'll need more info about the environment you're trying to run it in. It runs fine for me on ubuntu 18.04.1.

    sorry for the long post

current situation: auto update from 95->96.1 doesn't work, but downloading tpt 96.1 from website does work.
so: auto update needs to be fixed for tpt95, and the ubuntu store app needs to be updated (i realise that the app may not be made by the same people as tpt).

    im running ubuntu 18.04.5.
i use the tpt app from the ubuntu store (which is still version 95).
    what i had done was:
    1. i clicked on auto-update, which fails.
    2. downloaded tpt from the website like it said, doesnt open. I think it must of been version 96 and not 96.1.
    3. open it using bash terminal i.e. "./powder", which thows the error above.
    4. googled stuff like "GLIBCXX_3.4.26 not found", didnt find a solusion.
    5. tried reinstalling stufff.

    6.  installed tpt96.1 from website and it finally work.

also a review on the app from "Jacob" says: "The Powder Toy has a built-in updater, but it fails to update. Right now the snap store version is 95 but version 96 is out now."

96.0 does not work on old versions of Ubuntu (i.e. 18.04)
96.1 fixes this, you need the snap maintainers to update the game on their end, and the snap is not affiliated with the TPT devs.
