As shown by this graph I made a while ago, most TPT users are young, and I'm guessing chucking them all in a chat room would be chaotic. There's a big unofficial tpt discord server I'm in, it's extremely spammy and unorganised, people just spam bot commands, images, videos and other stuff, and there's a nsfw channel for some reason. I'm guessing a new TPT discord server would look similar unless it's very well-moderated. I don't think an official discord server will be made any time soon, but it might be possible.

Luckily, we do have several official IRC channels on Freenode. People rarely talk about TPT in the main channel, you could consider it a social channel with people who played TPT at some point in their lives. There's a separate channel that keeps track of TPT development on github and it's a good place to ask for help if you are making a mod or a lua script. Edit: Oh and unlike the discord servers, those IRC channels are way more organised and more moderated.
