A question of ethics

Many people will know that the front page system on TPT is based on votes per unit time - the more rapidly upvoted, the higher on FP it sits. However, many of us in less populated timezones will have faced the issue of having saves - that took many, many hours to make - go unnoticed for the crucial first hour, dashing those saves' hopes of front page.

As a result, I've deleted and republished saves in the hope of getting them better noticed. This seems borderline unethical, but there's no rule against it, and after spending 10+ hours working on a save it's a bit miserable to see it gain a single upvote then sink to obscurity.

The question is - is republishing the same, unmodified save immoral?

It would be better for an actual moderator to see this and reply, but I believe this was once discussed some time ago here.

    Two important things I believe were brought up;

    boxmein:

Bumping to the recents has been disabled, yes. I can see why, it's unreasonable to bump your save every once in a while and get more views. With enough users doing that, the "newest" page would be filled with repetitive saves and all the "new" saves would instantly go to page 2 or 3, out of sight.

    savask:

Why not to announce it here, on forums? You will have more chances to get good votes, also a mod can like and promote your save to FP if it's "a piece of gold buried in tons of shit" :-P

Basically, there's no rule against it, possibly because few people do it and get any success with it. If you want to promote a save, doing it on the forums is a much better way of doing so, and people used to do it some time ago too.

I find nothing unethical about re-uploading.  its promoting.  not many good products get noticed without some advertising.

I find nothing unethical about re-uploading/re-publishing things myself, though I frown upon multiple copies being uploaded (they won't be removed unless they excessively spam, just a slight displeasure).

I agree with sandwichlizard / Lockheedmartin too. I did that for my very first tpt save, I just resaved it without changes to get it noticed. These days you can only bump it every 1-3 hours or something, a reasonable limit.

Edit: the thread CAC-Boomerang linked is from back when this 3 hour limit was first added. Simon decided to make it 3 days, effectively preventing all save bumping. It isn't that long anymore, 3 days was a bit unreasonable.

The re-upload "cool down" is 3 hours right now.

Not if you rename the save. You lose any vote score, but sometimes its tempting to do that if you get downvoted for no good reason. Personally, I see nothing wrong with it as long as you aren't doing it to troll, or spam.

You can't rename saves, only create new ones. And recreating the same save over and over again can get annoying...

I do it if i get a down vote immediately after uploading.  I wait a few hours hoping that the down voter is not watching anymore.

I re-upload some of my saves from time to time too.
What i also do is, to use one of my saves as a 'bookmark', to see what creations has been done since the last time i was online.
