Frames Per Second issue

So, I have an issue. I used to play TPT on my laptop, which doesn't have a video card. And I got bad FPS (around 3-7 FPS) if the whole save is filled with water and unpaused. I built a new PC and it is about 25-40x more powerful when it comes to gaming. Yet I get the same FPS as I do on the laptop.

I was wondering if there was video-card support for TPT? How do I increase my FPS? Thanks for any help.

The only thing that matters is your CPU. TPT is a single threaded application (besides a few extra things), so your video card doesn't matter.

You should still get better fps on a more powerful computer though, so I'm not sure why you aren't. A full screen of water is always going to be laggy no matter what you have.

A full screen of water isn't very laggy for me. Then again, I have a Core i7 4790k CPU so that's probably why.

I have an AMD FX6300 six-core. Should I have bad FPS?

Not only the fact that TPT doesn't use the video card almost at all, it also only uses one processor core. Every procedure in the game is tightly coupled, so it's a lot of work to split them into individual components that can be stuffed onto separate cores. Obviously having multiple cores helps - other processes on the computer can be scheduled to other cores - but in the end if your intention is to run TPT fast what's ideal is a fast single-core processor with a lot of gigahertz and floating point acceleration (everything has that!).

You have a pretty good setup, but TPT isn't a good game to test your computer on. There's many features of computers that make 3D gaming fast, and TPT uses almost none of those.
