Question regarding upload rules

    1. Does no image plotting mean I can't use it even for adding detail (like a logo) to an existing save?

    2. Do those rules apply to just published saves, or all uploaded saves?

    1. Quite questionable. From my experience as long as CGI isn't the main aspect of your save, the mods are going to growl a little but it would be fine.

    2. In the past the rules were called "Save Publishing Guidelines", after Simon had a rather heated disagreement with someone, he renamed them into "Save Uploading Rules".

It's perfectly all right to have little decorations like logos in a save. As long as the save isn't entirely art, it's just fine.

It's obvious that image plotting/CGI rules are in place to prevent people from gettin front page with computer generated art. If the art isn't the focal point of the save, and it's just added on (deco/logo ect.), I can't see why that would be an issue.

It just means you shouldn't use a script (like a lua script) to generate the save / art for you. And yes, it applies to unpublished saves too, although I probably wouldn't find it or care if it was unpublished. If you aren't using a script to generate it, it doesn't matter what you put in your save.

I'm just glad you didn't use that font again on your fp save right now :P. Might have demoted it ...

Also you must be getting stuff confused, not sure which heated argument you are talking about. I renamed them to "Save Uploading Rules" without really much discussion when I added the rules into the game itself. The thread on the forums still is called "Save Uploading Guidelines".

CGI for a logo would probably be fine if it's fairly small and non-impressive (a basic text logo or something), but if it's noticeable enough to get your save extra votes, the save will probably be locked until you remove it. In my opinion, cgi really isn't worth it unless it's something you know is acceptable.

That one time I used some lua to transfer files over TPT, in unpublished saves, Simon decided to change the rules.

My general test for saves that break a rule is:

    • Does it give the user(s) an unfair advantage?
    • Does such action cause harm to the server or community?
    • Is it a clear violation of a justified policy?

If the save in question does answer yes to any of these questions then it is likely to be removed. As with what

@FeynmanLogomaker said, in my opinion and stance for CGI, if it isn't major (logos or something small) then I won't stick you for it. If you use it to make a major art save or electronics system for votes and attention, then that would be an unfair advantage.
