    ...

can we see an example? The air simulation in this game is really good, it just can't simulate an infinite space so has problems on the edges

At first nothing seems to happen, but if you watch for a while huge waves of pressure come from the edge of the screen, it could happen because of an inbalance in pressure above and below the engine caused by the high velocity, as it gets to a certain point the pressure quickly levels out and creates a huge burst of pressure to both the left and the right, but you can only see it going to the right because the edge of the screen partially acts like a wall because it cannot simulate pressure on the other side.

That is weird, I've seen it happen before (only with very high velocity situations), but as far as I know it can't be fixed without simulating air in imaginary areas outside TPT's screen. Or maybe removing pressure at the edges in a slightly better way.

This is because of air decay at the edges not being strong enough, but incidentally also because your jet is producing an insane amount of high pressure very, very close to the edge of the map in relative. It doesn't have nearly enough room to spread out to decay properly, so when enough air bunches up, it spreads out in small bubbles and continues bouncing around the map like a normal wave would in a container.

..More specifically, your thruster is just a bit too ambitious. ;P When the air grid was made, this kind of pressure was literally beyond impossible to generate under any circumstances. As a consequence, some oversights like this still exist - just most people haven't seen fit to complain.

(eg: just open up the exaust a bit so it can spread out in more than just one direction, and you won't get this gigantic waves coming in reverse, because the original pulse will have lots of room to spread out and smooth out reverse waves :P)
