2013... why are there errors?

    So it's Saturday, March 30th 2013.

Anyways... I am currently having some errors with this program and I would like to know why they have not been fixed yet.

I just now downloaded Powder Toy a day or two ago... and I have been noticing that these two files:

stderr.txt and stdout.txt keep on popping up on my desktop every time I open the program.

SECONDLY, I am UNABLE to close the program at all... when I do close it, it keeps saying that windows is unable to close the program and that I will have to wait for it to close.

Basically, I can click to close it; but instead, it just freezes and remains open & unplayable... -_-

How do you fix this, or why is this still happening?

I viewed all the previous threads, and it appears there hasn't been any UPDATES to the game to stop this from happening.

ALSO, when I download the program as a zip file, it gives me two exe files instead of one.

It gives me "Powder.exe" and "Powder-legacy.exe"... are there any differences between the two, or can I delete the un-needed exe file and just keep one of them?

Don't mess with the std files. They are normal. Both exes are probably similar but maybe ones for windows and the other mac? Or is it 32 and 64 bit? I don't know why it crashes...happens sometimes.

The difference between Powder.EXE and Powder-Legacy.EXE it that the legacy version is for older/slower computers

the date is irrelevant, are you implying that since it's 2013 programs should have no bugs at all? That makes no sense. There will always be problems with things no matter what year.

and please don't ALL CAPS random words, it doesn't help your argument.

and what fireball5000 said is right, one is just for older computers (powder.exe has sse2 optimizations)

Yeah, sorry about that. Although it seems my point was missed, what I was saying is that it is 2013... it's probably been a year or more since the program was created.

In a sense, by now; most people would have figured that the program itself would have been closed down, or better updates would have been added to the system.

Thanks for clarifying that those extra text files weren't a problem, but may you explain why I cannot close the program at all? Even when I use task manager and "end process" it keeps the program open.

But what I was saying in general about the 2013 comment, is that I figured this program is somewhat old (as for I have seen it on many websites by now years ago, or those are possibly copies of this program), I figured by now... there would have been some heavy modifications to the game itself... such as making the particles looking more "detailed" or adding more elements into the program. Maybe adding things such as sulfer and such...

Anyways, sorry about the caps of certain words...

ok, I responded to the other stuff in your other thread.

And this program is technically about 4-5 years old, but it has gone through many massive changes. Just a few months ago it was ported to c++ (at least the interface part), so there are still some bugs. But that I have never seen.

And it's still being updated, just slower now. Maybe a new release every month.

Edit: also going to sleep now, so if you are responding I won't see until either tomorrow morning, or way later in the day

Ahhh, well anyways. Outside of the negative response I have given you, this is indeed one of the most amusing games I have ever played. There are so many wonderful things I have tried with it, although closing it seems to be a problem (doubt it's my computer, since this one is brand new and isn't have problems with any other programs).

But honestly, wonderful game; very interesting and definitely something to play when you just want to mess around with "elements". ^_^ I hope there will be more elements added to the game, as well as maybe some new items or possibly a more "detailed" particle look.

I haven't seen any reports of a freeze on close, so it may be your specific computer (at least no one else has ever reported this).  We can't fix a problem the program may not be causing.  Does it always freeze?  Does everything else (in tpt) seem to work fine?  What system (OS) are you using exactly? Does the beta version freeze?

Also graphics will never be more detailed, because they are literally per-pixel particles, you can't get any higher detail than what the screen physically allows.

EDIT: There is ONE setting that possibly affects this, in the tpt options menu, there is an option for 'Fast Quit'.  Does it freeze for both on and off?
