actually, that's only true for ex. The derivative of e2x is 2e2x, which is twice the original :P
Another math fact:
eiπ + 1 = 0

Nothing surprising here, we are basically "defining" exponentiation over complex numbers. The more general formula is
ez = eRe(z) (cos Im(z) + i sin Im(z))
