c++ not visual studio?

    okay, let's start
why mac? i didn't even mention mac
microsoft windows has the 'default download' on every wesite, doesn't spam every program

It's because it's paid, and paid apps don't need ads.
On the other hand, i haven't seen a linux program have ads either.
is the easiest system to personalise?

What can you adjust in windows? tint of colors, font? On linux you can adjust everything, you can even replace the Desktop Environment and Window Manager, and even remove the precious window'y gui at all.
How they actually upgrade their operating system

I haven't seen anything new in Vista, 7 and 8 except design and more bullshit
How they have a usefull, organised folder viewer

who needs folder viewer if you have ls,find, grep and friend
    and command line terminal.

Heck, even mac is posix-compatible. Windows terminal is a piece of incompatible shit, not to mention the commandline tools. Where's my grep?
How every projector EVER has the actual parallel-port data cable hookup, and doesn't need an adapter cord.

I have had no problems last time i had to use a projector with X11

I can use both Linux and windows, and its clear that you don't use windows or know why people use it. I don't understand the default download or ad stuff, but starting with the personalization stuff, well yes there is more on Linux. But do the people who want to use windows care? Maybe, but they've been used to how it looks their entire lives, and most like it. There are still some hacks you can do to change it.
Saying nothing is new in windows 8 is ignorance, I'm sure you have heard a ton about it. Its now designed for tablets and touch screens and is also much faster. Of course it actually isn't that good but its very new and they took a big risk to change a lot and make it. 7 has a few new things and fixes some of vistas problems, and that is the one I use.

Also I really dislike people that are so much Linux fanboys they say, no ide, no folder viewer. Use vim, grep, and find for everything, its the Linux way and the only right way. Well ..
No, of course not. Rejecting guis and user interfaces is idiotic, that is the reason computers became a success that everyone has. Without them productivity is horribly slow, and you waste time. You can use them when you need (SSH to a server ex.) But using those only just isn't right.

Windows isn't posix compatible, but as I said people don't use it for the command line, it uses a nice user interface. If you want to try things like make, you need to install a bunch of stuff and its annoying.
Also Linux is fine with projectors, I've seen it.

People use both Linux and windows for different good reasons, and usually just one is right for you. But arguing about it saying one is always better won't work, chances are everyone will give valid reasons and places where one is better than another. I think they ate both good and I use them both for different things.

    >Also Linux is fine with projectors, I've seen it.
I can confirm that since every classroom in my school is equipped with a projector connected to a linux.

    Let me correct you:
    >What can you adjust in windows? tint of colors, font? On linux you can adjust everything, you can even replace the Desktop Environment and Window Manager, and even remove the precious window'y gui at all.
Have you used Windows 8? You'll know once you have.
    >I haven't seen anything new in Vista, 7 and 8 except design and more bullshit
It's clear that you haven't used any of these. Vista is like XP with more speed and better GUI. Windows 7 is like vista++. But windows 8 is frickin' awsome. It's new MUI rules and is perfectly compatible for tablets and touchscreen devices like Ultrabook. It has a BIG list of personalisation options, gets out of freezes faster, and I love the way it turns on in 3 sec everytime.

    and is also much faster

Haha. Even windows developers themselves agree windows kernel is bloated with stuff and will never be fast.
no ide, no folder viewer. Use vim, grep, and find for everything, its the Linux way and the only right way. Well ..
No, of course not. Rejecting guis and user interfaces is idiotic

what do you need from your IDE? have multiple files open at same time? vim can do that. search? easy.
Also about grep. It's really weird that on windows, to find some file by name or by content, you have to have some IDE installed. On linux it's just either find|grep x or grep x `find`.
Without them productivity is horribly slow, and you waste time.

Not sure what you mean there, because typing out find/grep takes less time than opening explorer, navigating into needed directory adjusting search query. And if you're about performance, you don't know how wrong you are. There's nothing faster than find and grep
    Have you used Windows 8?

Yes i have, not for long, but i can say for sure, it's broken.
It's clear that you haven't used any of these

Again, i have used all 3. I _seriously_ don't see anything new in XP-7 (except that vista is the most broken thing ever)
It's new MUI rules and is perfectly compatible for tablets and touchscreen devices like Ultrabook

    gui gui gui gui gui....
    gets out of freezes faster
Just lessened the time after which "This shit is frozen" appears, don't see anything interesting in that
I love the way it turns on in 3 sec

    1) of course if you don't shut down, but sleep mode instead.
    2) windows boot is really broken, it takes almost the same as on linux now, but after you log in, on windows, you can't use your comp for like a minute, while various stuff loads.
    3) windows is like 10 gigabytes. not even quarter of that can load in 3 seconds, and ... let's see... my debian install is 1.5 gigs, with parallel init,d it takes about 7-8 seconds to bring me to login screen

    P.S:
If anyone ever brings up that you can't play games on linux,
    1) that is not a valid argument, it's not an advantage of linux, it's games developers' fault
    2) wine

As a friend once told me:

Windows is a motorcyle. It's generally reliable and quite fast

Linux is a motorcycle you build yourself: ie. you get it right and it rocks or you get it wrong and it falls apart.

Mac is a tricycle: it sucks.

@greymatter... CHROME SUCKS!, i got chrome on my laptop because it was the brand new google thingy, i later had to delete it intirely because it slowed down my computer so much, it took 15 attempts to delete it because it 'doesnt want to lett go'... ie, it broke itself up into little bits and scattered itself throughout my hardrive. before i could actully make progress deleting it i looked in it's stupid massive files to try and save my favourites list, i could not of course because they where incompatible with internet explorer and the old google. but i did find a large bloodsoaked knife in the backbone of my computer. it seems that google bloody chrome permanently saves pracically every single keystroke into one big, uncompressed, fragmented, hidden folder so of course, all my internet history was there, wich i had been deleting to save disk space, idly assuming that google would have the good grace to let me delete some useless youtube videos, coursework research and shopping lists. this file was MASSIVE. after i deleted it, i swear my framerate rose by 12fps. so i deleted all the other components and switched to plain ol' IE. but i still get that bloody message whenever i visit google ''upgrade to chrome!''. damnit google! i could have used those 10cm^2 for something....... i think. but seriously. IF YOU HAVE CHROME, DELETE IT NOW.

Troll, chrome rules. Also, as i said in another thread, the long key above the arrow keys, labelled "Enter", can actually make a new line!

In sleep mode, Win8 turns on in 2 sec, and shows the lock screen. I have an intel i5 and Win8 turns on in 3 sec. I'm serious. And after showing the MUI it works fine, except it takes about 5 more seconds to load touchpad special functions.

I always will be a Unix guy, even if I use Windows. Windows is just to unstable for me.
