Beta = pre-released version of the game for troubleshooting bugs before it is officially released.
The recording device is accessible by pressing "R", but be warned, it's in .ppm format and just floods your powder toy's directory with files that take up tones of memory. -

but how do you play your recording?
and is there a way to change it back to the regular powder toy?

Well you said "how do I use the recording device" so how could I've known you knew how to use it already? You asked how to use it, not how to run them -__-
I'm not 100% sure how to open them, but I can guaranty it requires another program. I've never tried, too much hassle. I would just use fraps if I want to get a video.
The only way you can change your powder toy back to regular powder toy is either delete your current version and just install the official release, or wait untill the next official update. -

Is there any specific reason for not using the beta? (I know it could be unstable and does not allow you to publish saves, but that's why it's a beta)
