    This is probably obvious, but was does the permalink button do?

    It puts the link to the post in the address bar of your browser.

    For example if you click the permalink in this comment you'll find this address in the address bar of your browser.

    https://powdertoy.co.uk/Forum.html?action=vthread&forum=1&topic=487#msg6221

    So then if you ever want to link to this comment in another place you can use that link.

    lol. (i kindof didnt know what permalink was, i knew it linked to the post its in, but i thought the link could never be removed due to "perma".)

    Just like HeyJD said it simply is a link that will automatically scroll the person clicking the link down to the post you have permalinked.
