We all know powdertoy is slow and gets laggy what Ive noticed is that it needs to be coded to run on more than one core. To prove this I have my laptop dell xps i3 370m nvidia geforce 420m
I also have my desktop again i3 but 370 and nvidia 250 0.5 gb no diffrence in speed so it must be multi core.

I beleive if opencl/gl (cant remember which one) implementation is sucssesful the developers will look into multi-threading

As far as I am aware, no work has been done on multithreading for some time. Making powdertoy multithreaded, particularly without breaking existing saves, is a difficult task.

A very old (August 2010) thread on this topic:

Hey Candunc, I'm getting ready to buy a computer, is i5 enough for PT, I'm planning on getting the 2500k processor, it has unlocked multiplier, so I can OC to whatever I want.

I have a core 2 duo and PT uses both threads but about 60% on one thread and 40% on the other so it only uses 50% of total CPU power.

    Thats not the problem

    I have a Pentium 4 CPU @ 3.00 Ghz

thats an old 2005 model CPU and I get 60 frames

its not because he has an i3
