i think we should be allowed to advertise discord servers that relate to TPT, think about it, everytime people try to group u in a more accesible and popular platform they get shut down. We are at the point where we should be allowing these things for the sake of continuing the actvitity of TPT, because clearly the way its been done has led to its decline. and this should extend to other platforms aswell not just discord, we should be allowed to congregate at other places, and to your response of "you are allowed to", explain how were are supposed to congregare when we cant even make mention of the place we are to do so?

The real solution is that we need an official discord server. Unofficial communities will never be allowed to be advertised, as they are unmoderated by us, and have in the past led to serious issues in TPT regarding harassment and inappropriate saves. So for that reason, expect any links to unofficial discord servers to be deleted.

The rule against this does not have a major effect on the community size. It shrinks naturally over time, and discord won't reverse that. Besides, the people who want to congregate on discord will do so anyway, either on their own private non-advertised discords, or the "official" unofficial discord, which has 226 users.

Other than discord, I'm not aware of many attempts to create communities elsewhere. There was a Korean forum that got a ton of users. IRC is pretty dead. Discord is the main gathering place that rule S5.2 is intended to block.

i think that rule is outdated jacob, we are at the point where there isnt even enough people for serious controversy on TPT, and if there is moderation should take care of that, we shouldnt be restricted because the actions of select few.

And if we cant have this, why hasnt there been an official discord made already? theres no reason not to do so, and if you need moderation im sure people will be willing to help.

The rule is not outdated, and will stay in place once we have an official discord server.

The only reason we don't have an official discord yet is because of the extra moderation burden and setup that would be required. For IRC we have bots and moderation tools to handle things for us. On discord, we don't have this yet. The type of attacks made on public discord servers are different than the type we are used to. To prevent most of them, my goal is to have a bot that verifies TPT accounts, requiring you to link to TPT before you can use the server.

Once we have that, the moderation burden will be small, because it will just be a select group of actual TPT users. Then the discord server can finally be opened up.

Why the official discord server is called "unofficial TPTserver"?

It isn't, there is no official TPT discord server so it can't be called "unnofficial TPT server".
