Usability Ideas

With the Powder toy getting so big (in terms of elements) I think that some things could be changed to help improve general ergonomics within the application.

    Category Suggestions:
    • “light” category: Photons, glow, filter, liquid crystal and breakable metal to be added
    • “Electronics” to be split further
o At least the separating of “real” electronics from others
 Photons, Lightning, liquid crystal, electrode, powered clone, heat switch and pump removed and sorted into more relevant categories
o Perhaps an “Electrical” and “Electronics” as separate
o Electrical category could contain elements affected by electricity, but don’t conduct it or use it as their sole purpose.
    • “Tools” category created, as a touch tab on the left side of the screen (i.e would only be visible as a menu when moused over, like older style menu)
o Would contain non-particle elements: Air, Vacuum, Heat, Cool and Eraser
    • “Spatial” category: warp, in and out portal, black and white holes and pipe to be added
o “Spatial” could be renamed “Fundamental” to incorporate clones and void
    • Solids could be split into “Natural” and “Artificial”, solely for decreasing size
o Natural and Artificial could potentially be subcategories of the solids tab (two menu icons could appear horizontally from solids button when moused over)

    Useability Suggestions:
    • Primary, Secondary and Alternate element shown in a touch tab on left hand side on screen
o Kind of like paint etc.
    • Recent elements: shows a list of the last 5 elements used (once again as a touch tab on the left)
o Helpful when doing repetitive sections
    • One channel change per second/click with heat and cool on Wi-Fi (ie. Wi-Fi changes in 100 degree increments
o Same could apply to colours for Filter

Whilst my coding skill isn't great, I think these features wouldn't be to hard to implement and would help with usability a lot

    What do you guys think?
Post what you think of these ideas and any further suggestions or alterations to this that might be helpful.
