I have a windows xp 32 with sp3, followed the steps in the download page, installing the microsoft pack and neither the zip versions or the installer version worked. When I try to run it a error message appears, failure at startup due to wrong configuration.
Any suggestions/ideas to solve this? I really want to use powder toy.

Is it a full, official version of Windows? I've noticed that this error commonly occurs with people using slim or stripped down versions of Windows like MicroXP

Also, download this file, place it in the same folder as the Powder Executable, and Run Powder.exe (Not the SSE2 version) and post back with any information.

Well, not worked too. My windows is full official, but it was a sp2 and the installation of the sp3 was a little messy, maybe some dll of the sp3 is in another folder or something like that, tell me the files that are important and where they should be.

The error message is one line only and is: Failure at startup due to wrong configuration. The reinstallation of the app may fix the problem. (Maybe this is a little different in a windows in english)

I runned ccleaner looking for registry errors and it came up with two lines related to powder toy:

    d

The lines with a checkbox say "reference not found at multilingual user interface"
The patch on c:\ is wrong, I installed the zip version at c:\lll\
    The last I dont know.

    Hope it help.

That error shouldn't cause the application to start.
What do you mean by the SP3 installation was messy?

The system works fine but the service pack files aren't in system32 but at another folder in \windows. But i did the installation in a normal way so maybe there's nothing wrong with this.
I tried do run the program in safe mode, nothing too. I will download a very old version and see what happens.

Downloaded powder-050610-2248-win32-sse3.zip and powder-050610-1903-win32-sse3.zip and only the last worked.

Those old builds were build with MinGW on Linux, the newer version are Built with Visual C++.
Have you tried installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtimes (Both 2008 and 2010)?
