It looks a lot like the ban policy here is very similar to that of Facepunch. I see a lot of active members in the forum getting their posts hidden because they are "banned". (The difference, though, is that Facepunch's moderation seems to be somewhat corruptible. Basically it's turned into 4chan with an active staff and paid membership.)
I just want to know, are the bans temporary or eternal? Sounds like a problem if the latter.
Depends on the ban reason.
If a user trolls all the time, he/she will probably get permanently banned.
If a user breaks a rule just one or two times, he/she will probably be banned for a day or two.
Most of the times bans are temporary, a few times they can be permanent.

Well, Facepunch has basically close to zero tolerance. They ban sometimes for stuff like posting in the wrong section. I've seen it. The moderation here from what I see is active, but fair. You won't get banned for stupid/unfair things, but trolling doesn't get tolerated either.
Also, 4chan isn't that bad from my experience if you stay out of /b/. Most of the trolls are in /b/, and when trolling happens in other boards they usually get banned.
