Do your friends also use a computer alike you with Mavericks, or your computer entirely, or your network connection, or something? It might be your computer, or it might be every part in the process - OSX's networking library, The Powder Toy, some firewall or proxy (for example, schools enforce proxies that filter out websites they don't like), or anything else (cosmic rays, the magnetic field around us, the amount of magic smoke released from your machine, the amount of Tesla coils in the room, and the amount of alive entities sitting behind this computer beside you)
