WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get. It is not specific to this website and is used by several (almost all?) forums and blogs.
Essentially it allows you to use various features like linking, making text bold, italics etc using buttons around the text area.
If you turn it off, you have to use HTML code to do these functions.

If you don't know HTML coding, it is better to leave it on as you can use features easily. But if you turn it off, you can do a lot more than what the WYSWIG editor allows you to.

WYSIWYG editor is a text editor it is not only for powder toy many websites have this thing and when you turn it on in tpt what will happen is when you write a post you will get a new bar that can make the text Bold Italic underline strikethrough etc

you can turn it on by going to Settings under your name https://powdertoy.co.uk/Profile.html

Don't forget to mention that the WYSIWYG editor is utterly broken on the PowderToy forums.

It basically breaks a lot of things like save linking et al. It's usually far simpler to use the plain text editor anyway, because it looks nice with little effort and the HTML it generates is nice, too.
