china-richway2 is exactly right, when we delete a thread it doesn't decrease the topic count. They have gotten really out of sync after a long long time, so the last pages of the recent topics has no threads. You can also see this in several subforums (I think announcements was one). I usually never delete threads for this reason.

It does help prevent necroers from finding the oldest threads at least.
