It isn't actually the save itself, each picture it has to load gets its own thread or something.  Unchecking "Show avatars" in the options menu will help (if the save has comments).

It may also be the threads for the browser thumbnails, they do they same thing, and you may have slow internet and notice the lag more.

But yea this is probably something that should be fixed.
