has anyone been able to build a fireplace that doesn't kill stickmen with the ambient heat? i'm trying to build a fireplace but it doesn't seem like there's a way to keep the ambient heat in or limit the amount of heat that is radiated

desl might work, as it lets off low heat. try and make a chimney that will move the air quickly and remove the heat to above the building.

How big is this fireplace. Is it a little tiny miniature, or a big furnace?
