In the time I have been on TPT, I have noticed that whatever feedback pages arise with suggestions are usually struck down with little reasons other than "It breaks saves" I believe this is a terrible way to go about things and that these people should atleast come up with decent reasons WHY it shouldn't be added...
Its alright if you break a few eggs so long as you don't shred the chicken whome layed them, yet the crowd seems to hate upon whatever breaks a few handfuls of saves and it is completely against progress. they often lack reasons why they believe the suggestion shouldn't be implimented; sure the suggestion may break a few saves but the powder toy as a whole will not advance if we have to stop everytime some poor kid complains his save is broken because we have changed something for the greater good.
Saves will break no matter what, you have to advance some way and no matter what we do so far in development we will have to alter some thing that someone will complain about.
"Don't cry over spilt milk, unless it was a milk vat"
I'm just saying that these people need to deal with it, sure it "Breaks saves" and some saves will break, but TPT will go nowhere if it stops every 4 minutes due to saves that can't be fixed by those whome own them.
EDIT: An obvious fix for people is to add a Compatibilty mode
Wanted to get this out there, off of other people's threads because that will no doubt cause issues for thread owners.
Call me an old fart again, but I think this rad new idea about "we have to break saves to make progress" is a silly one and ought to be put down quickly before it's gets attention. Saves don't have to be broken, new elements can be added without any cost.
If we don't like an element as it is we can change it's name and move it to the secret elements menu. Then add a new element in its place.
Okay...(look,I'm not a fan of using metaphors or figurative language in speech, so I have mixed feelings about your post.) I agree that saves will be broken, but I think it's a much bigger problem than you think it is.Plus, it's not just "it breaks saves" the reason suggestions get taken down; some of them get struck down because there is an easier, more practical alternative, the suggestion is poorly written,or it has little uses.Sure, it might get struck down because it breaks saves, but other reasons are more common.
Saves already break, I'm positive you can find a broken save between every release ever done.
Except those are *mostly* bugs or uninteneded behaviour, I know for the next release I broke my own save(circle of life) with some minor GoL issue no one probably ever encountered before.
If the idea is good, it will usually be done.
I think the "it breaks saves" argument is used a bit too often in my opinion. While there are certainly suggestions where it should be considered, there have been suggestions before that have been shot down for breaking saves even though that particular suggestion had no possible way of doing that. For example, someone once suggested renaming diamond to "pixel thick wall", and got immediately shot down for it breaking saves.
Thats becasue many people dont know how the code works. Thats the problem these days with 'it breaks saves' is because they dont know the actual affect it will have and how it could be fixed simply by knowing how code works and not just thinking they can suggest anything and everything is compatible and will work.
I've had a few of my saves broken before (due to firework turning to embr, and being cooled down) but those were minor breaks and fixed easily.
I think most ideas should be ignored if they break saves, sure they might genuinly improve tpt but what's the point in improving the game when all its content and the content after that is damaged?
