I know that a most of the time, the recent saves are nothing but shoddy bombs and copies. This really bothers me because some of the good saves will get buried in the torrent of useless junk that's posted every minute. What I propose is a Builders Server.
1. You would only be able to post one new save a day, but updating it is fine. (Only one new title per day)
2. The save you upload must NOT be a save that has been directly copied. It must be a fresh one.
3. The rules would be different. You would get a message saying that it must have some purpose.
4. No giant bombs, copies, spam, text only, pixel art (maybe), or just plain crappy saves allowed.
5. Do NOT make saves that contain fragments of other people's stuff, unless you have their permission.
5.5. Use your BEST WORK POSSIBLE. It should be your own idea.
6. All of the standard rules apply as well.
I really wish there was something like this implemented. It's only to get the smaller saves some more attention. I see some people with great potential try to climb the anarchy of the PT, only to be buired by some saves that just put giant bombs in copied cities.
That sounds like more server space and a lot more moderating.
plus, the normal server space will then be clogged with useless saves, since all of the people who are serious about save making would just post in the other server.
it wouldn't work.
I actually really love this idea. You could have to get registered for the channel (maybe) - either there would be a panel of judges or something that would judge applicants or you would have to have been on TPT for at least a certain time - and there could be a group of moderators, possibly the normal TPT moderators or maybe others, so that the regular mods wouldn't be too busy. It maybe could be run by other people, so all Simon would need to do would be to create it, and it would manage itself, so to speak.
I've PM'd Simon about it...
I just hope he reads it and maybe responds.
Here is an idea: you apply for space for each save, which will wait in a queue. If that save is accepted it will be marked with a tag of some sort - simulating the new "server". The save may be in the queue for a numbr of days before being accepted/rejected, as moderators would run through entry after entry for a long time.
problems:
-time: it would take a while
-ambiguity: what defines "a good save"? How "useful"? How "beautiful"?
-work: Implementing such an idea may take time.
This is a GREAT idea. only thing it looks like it's not going to be implemented the way it's now. maybe with some improvements simon would accept it.
the idea of bimmo_devices is the best so far. Here's what i think:
1)there should be a new option called "save to elite server" or something like that along with "paused" and "publish" when you save something to the server.
2)the saves with save to elite server option enabled would go to a list that is checked by moderators and only the saves that they think required hard work and not some saves like "OMG OMG EMBR WHAT IS EIT?" will be accepted.
3)once accepted by a moderator these saves would be seen in a seperate tag called "elite saves" which will be near "by votes" and "by dates"
4)TPT will need a lot of moderators to do this. So maybe simon and other mods can promote some trustworthy users to "checkers" who can check and accept saves from this elite saves list.
Should it have separate moderators? Because I can see the moderators trying to manage both servers and being swamped in data; this server would be a lot harder to moderate.
No, I'm not saying this because I want to be a moderator...although if this idea gets accepted I would totally want to be a moderator anyways...
By the way, @Boxmein: Couldn't we prevent a hijack by regulating what data goes through the server?
