Well, of course we have the wiki, then we have loads of help threads, from which some have had VERY good answers by the devs.
Console Tricks - this describes in detail how to work with the old API.
Tutorials thread - Loads of tutorials just what you meant. Don't comment there and do not bump!
Art Tutorial - an old Transparent Windows usage tutorial. If on windows 7, use either the Basic mode OR use from the right-click menu!

For other stuff though, literally copy someone else's save, break it open and see how it works. Delete a piece, if it stops working, reload, see what it does.
