    I found this microsot website that lets you download microsoft applications inluding visual studio for free!

    All you have to be is a student and register at: https://www.dreamspark.com/Default.aspx (in students-> create account).

    VS and other MS tools are useful for other people. You just don't like them, you don't have to go around and say the programs are balony.

    Not all versions are free. This is also good for any other microsoft tool they have on the website.

    what is VS? an editor with a compiler? whatever editor you like, vim, nano, gedit at least, and gcc

    I actually used this myself to get VS2012 (either ultimate or professional, I don't know). It's my favorite ide though. Besides it being a little slow, I don't see how anyone could dislike it. It has tons of useful features that many others don't have and I use all the time.

    I was also thinking of using this to get windows 8, since my computer is slow with all the tons of programs it came with, and I heard windows 8 was faster. Also for other reasons my computer is probably meant to run 8, it has a touchscreen and it would just work well on it. (I also like being up to date)

    DreamSpark only works when you can prove to it you're a student. Proving is hard etc etc
