It generates a few header files, according to the new elements you have added in. It's actually never even compiled, when making the executable.

generator.py is only used along with scons ( a python-based compilation system ) to generate ElementClasses.cpp/h and ToolClasses.cpp/h . It has a major usefulness factor to it, yet it doesn't need to be developed further.
Python is awesome in my opinion yet I prefer Javascript to any other language. Just a quirk of mine I guess.
