In tpt++, you can add new elements without replacing old ones. See the lua api in the wiki (the elements page specifically). Also, I think one of the only example scripts i've seen is this: https://powdertoy.co.uk/Discussions/Thread/View.html?Thread=15262

the original tpt isn't used or updated at all anymore, the latest was version 83.0, and the last update was at least a month or 2. Version 83.1+ are tpt++, and everyone uses it now.

The only tpt's still being updated are my mod and jacksonmj's fork (both in the mod section).
