    VY-canis majoris was the largest star at the time this was created, and UY SCUTI, Betelgeuse and stephenson 2-18 was discovered after. I may be wrong, since this is simply an assumption, so correct me.

    no it IS actually stephenson 2-18. the reason the largest star constantly changes is because our methods of measuring star size improve. measuring large stars is difficult, as it turns out
