Drspringtrap, it is a desert paint called Dunkelgelb. The grey paint is called Dunkelgrau. These were the most common German paints. In about 1943, Germans started painting green and/or brown on top of Dunkelgelb, creating various bicolor and tricolor camos.
darn life won't let me spark the tanks!!!
1. Porshe turret very bad 2. Germany was really seriously inferior in armored industry in terms of technology - for example, USSR had automatic welding machines, large casting molds for complex turrets, microwave heating of armor to maintain welding temperature and stamped tank turrets too, while Germany used manual welding ( which, in the absence of specialists, greatly affected the quality of seams ) and heated the armor with burners during welding.
why is the ausf.A golden?
its just that it takes longer to build a tank compared to a casted one. the Tiger 2 was a good example of germans trying to make casted tanks but failed: the Porsche Turret didnt last long and was replaced with the Henshel turret which was welded armor. but yeah they could still do cast plates like gun mantlets and the plates themselves were cast.
wanna know why german tanks are so "boxy" compared to other nations tanks? because they sucked at making cast based tanks. Welded on Plates was all they could do. but honestly it wasnt mostly bad. casted tanks have lower quality armor and require more metal than welded on tanks.
