Alternative history! Russians needed to replace BT-7 and T-26 but T-70 project failed. They decided to make stronger BT-9 instead. It has 60 mm front armor, 30 mm side armor, 20 mm rear and top armor. I give credit to HarunK for original BT-7.

Do not spark the barrel or you will vaporize the crew

60 mm effective armor. That means 40 mm plate sloped in 45 degrees - 40*sqrt(2)=56,57 mm if you want to be accurate. T-34 had 45 mm plate sloped in 60 degrees - 45*2=90 mm. This is a calculation of LOS (line of sight) armor which is very close to effective armor.

Your BT-9 would have better performace if it had more road wheels than four. Five or six for example. Also 60mm of frontal armour is quite extreme. The T-34 had 45mm of frontal armour and this has 60mm. And because the armour is angled its effective thickness would suprass the armour of a tiger possibly.

A small amount of crew is preferrable to a large amount to a extent. Also the BT series was made by a racecar builder.

60 mm effective front armor. T-70 had good armor but only 2 crew and slow turret rotation. Its engine is placed next to driver and it is much weaker than engine in BT-7.

T-70 had good armour for a light at that time, and it was 35mm front, effective ~55-60mm.

60mm front or 60mm effective front? 60mm front at that angle = ~100mm. Pretty tough for a light tank, and it might reduce speed a bit.
