Since I joined TPT community I saw many times people suggesting "capacitors" -- "An element that can hold an electric charge, directly proportional to the number of sparks in the input, charged with PSCN, discharged with NSCN. Blah blah blah (technical information here, irrelevant)". NO! Capacitors don't work like this! A Capacitor, by definition, is "a device that blocks DC (Direct Current) and lets AC (Alternating Current) or PULSED DC go through it." But does we have DC or AC electricity in TPT? NO! So how people can be (I don't beleive I'm going to say this) idiot at this point to ask such kind of element! As electronic hobbyst (it's written this way?), I feel very offended when people say that capacitors are designed to store electric charges =p. What these people are asking is a rechargeable battery, but TPT don't really need it. So, you can use this one and be happy:
Now, 3 things: 1st - Sorry to SAMSTER5 for using his work without permission 2nd - Sorry to everyone if my message sounded like I was angry =P 3rd - Sorry for any spelling errors (-_-)
Dude, caps store charge too. Thats what the capitance, meausred in farads, is. Sure they work to stabalize current too, but they totally hold a charge. Trust me, I would know. Blew through my share of metal cans with em, Probably nearly got myself killed a couple times.
@user25(View Post) But the reason he said not to include caps isn't even true. Yes, caps DO block AC and allow DC, but they also totally hold charge. It's like me saying not to include wood, because wood doesn't actually burn. It just supports stuff. Since Powder Toy has no moveable solids, it is useless. It would be a good reason if it was true, but it is false.
@DucTape(View Post) I don't said that capacitors don't hold charge. I said that it is not the purpose of caps. And they block DC and allow AC, not block AC and allow DC
@Mur(View Post) Fair enough. But still, holding charge is still one of the purposes of caps. Take for example newer (by newer I mean still prototypes) electric cars. Rather than using batteries, which are slow to charge, they use super caps.
Caps are also used by devices that need a surge of energy to start something. The cap will charge up over time, and quickly release energy. This, however, wouldn't work in Powder Toy anyway.
