So, there seem to be problems with people resaving others creations. Why is this function even in place? Why can someone upload someone else's creation? I don't think the "save" button should be active on an opened creation for anyone but the creator. This should prevent others from saving it again and claiming it for themselves. (Of course, some people don't even remove the creator's unique stamp or change the name, making it even more obvious.)
Now, you might wonder, what prevents people from just taking a stamp of the entire thing and making a new save? Well, I think it should be an option when you save, "Allow stamps". Basically what it does, is it allows others to save stamps from the creation if it is checked, and only allows the creator to do so if unchecked. That way, "collection" saves such as the logic gates can be used by everyone, yet people can choose to protect their saves if they want to.
Do not support. How about if you take a stamp, it has metadata with the owner's name on it. Then if you use it in your creation, it will say the person's name on the side or somewhere. Might be hard, but worth it.
It's really stupid - why would you want to hinder other people's progress?
This is digital rights management, something I do not support or wish to implement. Just vote down and move along, it may get deleted. Quite a lot of people use the online saving a bit like a private save, they're not trying to steal, just save a bit of progress while they're setting fire to a city.
I may introduce a concept of private and public saving.
Public and private saving sounds like an excellent idea. I suppose that you wouldn't be able to public save someone else's creation, or have I misunderstood?
bchandark I don't see how "preventing people from stealing others creations" is the same as "hindering their progress". I am having a hard time coming up with a good argument though, since I'm not exactly a fan of DRM myself.
Bevinsky You would, but as I said, most people are not interested in stealing, it's just an accident, by default you'd save privately, and opt to publish it. We can easily delete any real "thefts" quickly.
The problem is that what if someone modifies the project for a better idea? Then no one can help mod it. Also the other factor is the older versions could probably use a fault to let them copy the project and then they could use my stamp transfer guide and save it as a steal. It's a bit flawed.
I like Simon's idea of Public and Private. And as for stealers, yeah, just vote them down and hopefully Simon or Ad will notice and the creation can be taken down.
