Just the walls, the pipe itself cannot be destroyed, try replacing the inner layer of brick with deactivated heatswitch, something that isnt flammable or conductive of heat. Its how I use pipe to move lava or plasma.

Use portal, or replace the brick in pipe with diamond. The pipe itself can be destroyed. I tried to make an apadtion of the pwr beta and I used pipe. after a while, it vanished.
