Element suggestion: Alcohol

This has been suggested once before, I think but I didn't notice a large discussion about it. TPT has yeast already, but no alcohol.

The alcohol I suggest would be nearly identical to ethyl alcohol but also have properties of other alcohols (to make it more useful).

    Alcohol (ETNL)

    • Freezing point: 159.01K
    • Boiling point: 351.39K
    • SG: .7893 (making it less dense than water and OIL)

    Interactions:

    • Formed when yeast reacts with SLTW/BIZR/WATR with CO2 as side product (would technically require sugar water, but that's a useless compound to add just for this. GEL with 50 tmp could also be an idea, since it's sticky like sugar water)
    • Kills VIRS
    • Burns to produce CO2 and WTRV
    • reacts with ACID to form GOO (closest thing TPT has to an ester--esters can form plastics)

It'd be neat for a vanity type thing, but other than that there wouldn't be much use...

If you added in an esterification reaction of alcohol and acid, it would increase usefulness.

It would also give YEST something to do instead of just growing.

It could also be another fuel source in addition to OIL and DESL. You could also have Alcohol have a lower flash point to make engines that require an ambient T>35 C

Me like. I'll be implementing a version and see where it goes from there. This by no means guarantees that it'll get into the game but it's a start.

Please let me know how it goes, I'm terrible at coding, but I am interested in how accurately chemical properties can be modeled in TPT

Oh lol, don't expect much. I'm not going to implement freezing or boiling because that'd require two other elements (like how WATR has ICE and WTRV), then OIL is already 2/3 the density of WATR so I made alcohol 1/2 of WATR. I also won't make it burn into CO2 and WTRV because the convention in TPT is for flammable stuff to turn into smoke through the Flammable property.

I have already implemented the GEL-based version of the YEST reaction though, which works kinda well (the YEST tends to die pretty quickly for some reason which makes it a challenge to get the reaction happening right, which is good!), and also the GOO reaction. The latter was a failure as the ACID (which, by convention, isn't necessarily completely eliminated by a rection depending on its .life) tends to eat the GOO, so I made it yield BIZR instead.

ajloveslily's point stands though; we'd still needs a few more interesting features for this to become a good new element candidate.

Poly vinyl alcohol polymerizes to form slime when mixed with borax, so what if the element could form GEL when mixed with salt?

Ah but that would be really weird. It'd react with GEL but would also make GEL...

It would create an endless loop, since YEST would react with GEL to produce alcohol, and the alcohol would react with the GEL to make slime. WATR would probably be a better thing to make the alcohol with, though
