I'd like to see an element that acts as a diffuse reflector, i.e. it reflects the light at random, constantly changing angles. This would make optics more interesting, and make it possible to create cameras that act in the expected manner. If I get motivated enough I may attempt it myself, but if someone else wants to take it upon themselves, they are welcome to do so.
