    I know mercury isn't red, it's a metallic silver. But people associate the color with mercury, making it more recognizable.

    I do like the idea of a substance that changes volume according to temperature. although we dont really need a conductive liquid with with water already in there....
    oh wait: (editing in the same post!) I suppose Hg could conduct faster than water and continually, unlike water that delays the pulse of a current.

    no, but rlly. This will act just like liquid metal (not water) and have some stuff from yest (changing size with temp). Mabye there could be both MERC(mercury) and RMER(red mercury) red mercory would deley the current still, but less than water.
