It seems almost everyone on the IRC channel programs for their own amusement, and I kind of wonder how what percentage of the forum posters program as well.
So how many of you program for fun (I do)?
after learning a new language who wouldn't?
Java is where my domain is, but im learning visual basic (in a class :/) want to learn c++ and eventually I want to get to python.
Learn C++ as soon as you can. If you already know Java learning it shouldn't be too much of a leap (I went to Java from C++ without learning much more then some new syntax).
The reason I say this is because Java is sort of terrible, it revolves around "our programmers are idiots so lets just remove all the useful features." Apparently even an unsigned value is too hard for a programmers to grasp, despite their useful properties.
Visual Basic is not very good, but I don't know if it is quite deserving of all the hate it gets.
I program in C++ as a hobby, but am still in the learning phase (I've been in the learning phase twice... Apparently I have no long term memory :P)
I have a fair amount of experience with batch (very simple language), and a bit of experience with lua and objective-C.
I do! Alot of HTML, a bit of C, rarely C++ and lots of DOS programs I make to fool around with. I would like to learn more C/C++ and Java, and at the moment I am trying to learn Visual Basic. I do not know lua, but I might learn it eventually.
