Mods get selected for very cryptic reasons that people that pry into NEVER COME BACK FROM. jk i asked once and got a cryptic answer so :P. Mods must be selected for personal reasons... not just pulled straight out of the community... and if they have IT IS TIME TO TELL US HOW IT HAPPENED MODS!!!! and if you dont want to tell them then you can just tell me ;D

It is mostly someone great on the IRC, yet someone trusted by Simon and the others. I think ~
Also, some strong contributors to TPT get Dev status, which can do stuff similar to moderators. From jacob1 I've heard that he could lock threads. (Not personally, in a post)

Moderator's are picked for mysterious reasons, so clearly unless I happen to live across the street from Simon I have no hopes of ever being a Moderator. That's just how it goes. -

Probably just safety measures. Would you trust someone to run your site's community when you barely know of him, whether he actually is who he is and etc.
