LINK (new element suggestion)

I'd like to see a new element, LINK (or whatever), that, when sparked, opens a link to a save ID, just like a sign with a {c}. The element is solid, indestructible, and conducts heat (like DMND), and cannot transmit/receive sparks from any other particle (including other LINKs). BRAYs should pass through it as they do with INWR. The save ID can be stored in the tmp property of the particle. The default color could be that same shade of blue that the text in a link sign is.

The reason for the strict spark behavior is to prevent automated, spammy popups. The idea is you have to click the particle manually. The reason that sparks cannot be transmitted to other LINKs is to prevent situations where a long chain of LINKs can be activated by a spark.

There should be a short recharge time, maybe 4 frames, after a LINK is sparked before any other LINK can be activated. This cleans up the logic for handling the case where multiple links are sparked at once (e.g. while paused or by a large pen).

The purpose of this element is solely aesthetic: It can be used for constructing home pages, logos, and links to other saves, when you want to create a link but don't like the look of the default sign.

    Useless if manual.

    Spammy if automatic.

    Aka, rejected.

How is it useless if manual? Link signs are manual and are not useless.

Yes, many people will not even bother sparking them.

Well, that's more of a problem with your home page and link design. The idea is you'd create something obvious, like a button, or text that says "click here", rather than, say, a big gray square that you expect somebody to click. Perhaps it could be given a slight glow in fancy/fire mode.

Still, most people would know what it does and decide "Hah, advertisements, I'm not clicking those".

They only can link to other saves, definitely not web pages.

It's still advertisements of other saves, so people will still think "Oh, just another safe, skip, go search more".

People are allowed to think that and not click. I'm not sure if that alone says anything about the usefulness of the particle. Personally, I enjoy clicking on link signs and browsing peoples' other works. Do you have statistics, perhaps from a poll, or from tracking click throughs on saves with links in them, that support your statement of what the most common user behavior is?

That does dictate usefulness, also, I do know by experience that people do not generally click advertisements from a website that I run, whether it's advertising another part of my website or an ad. They generally don't click it.
