Poll: Save Rights and Management

    Simple poll question:

What is your opinion about saving other people's projects and the rights to do so? Meaning do you think everyone should share, have some sort of restictions or limiting factor, or it is absolute the owner's call/right to give these permissions.

    Rules of this thread:

    1. No bashing other opinions. That means I do not want any replies to other posts except this.
    2. Follow the forums rules.
    3. Questions can be asked, but only if it's along with your opinion.

    Post away!

I think its OK as long as you don't publish them as your own.

Edit: for entire saves, i mean

I think that if posted on the internet that it should be for anybody to use just you need to give credit to the creator

Perhaps that there should be a 'signature' on each save and stamp. If someone would use a save or a stamp that they did not make from scratch in their own creation, it should show up when playing the creation. That way, credits should be given.

It should be dependent on the original poster's 'copyright'.

The 'copyright' becomes invalid for private purposes (locked saves) or if the second person changed SO MUCH of it that it becomes irelevent to ban/lock the user/save.

I was thinking about entire saves when I typed that post

for smaller things like reactors and electronics and explosives, people should be able to use them freely. A signiture may be a good idea though...

Perhaps a user could release a save in different modes, some preventing anyone to copy it, and others letting people use the creation without giving any credits.

That is a very good Idea, it gives the users a choice :)

There's a reason we don't already do this. Any fool with a modified version of the game can circumvent methods used to protect saves from copying with ease.

It's like making a rule just so people can step on it, it would only inconvenience people who want to copy other people's stuff.

DRM these days is awful. Implementing a complex system into Powder Toy to create DRM, just to be averted, is pointless.
If you completely _need_ a license, implement something similar to the GPL or CC BY-SA.
Plus, if you were to ever do that, I swear that someone will comment it out and post a mod to avert DRM.
