Buy (I forget which type) lab grade sulfur and stick it on a piece of wood, preferably one such as a toothpick or something of similar size to that of a regular match stick. Do be careful, yellowed sulfur is toxic, so wash your hands after handling.

 Yeah, they have a tendency to ignite in the box if they move around :/ A friend of mine from my scout days took some on camp but he got those from his dad who was ex-military so he probably had some from then, damn good matches though, good for fire lighting on camp.

Also, for the magnets...i'm looking for the big ones, hardware stores don't sell magnets that big, i think.

 I think there are places you can get laptop batteries but i'm not sure where, possibly somewhere like pc world. How big we talking for the magnets roughly?
