Assume that since neutrons are unstable outside of a nucleus that they decay immediately and that of the resulting particles, the pair of electrons are captured by nearby particles in the air which due to being excited cause a small amount of pressure thus only the proton remains which upon contact with the electron bonds to form hydrogen.

When people suggest protons, and it gets rejected, people don't look deep enough. With protons, we could create a whole new level of particle physics. there could be a lot more we could do with the (disappointingly small) radioactive section. I'm not suggesting, rather than stating. That's why a future version of my mod will have a whole lot more radioactivity.
