Implying this bill will actually stop piracy

Implying companies wont attempt to push any vague terminology in the laws to their advantage

Implying a single person or small group of people will be able to effectively moderate the entire internet [edit: they wouldn't be able to even moderate all the websites that are actually infringing] (ie. the attorney general. As you say, which AFAIK isn't even the way the bill is laid out)

Implying we here at powdertoy could afford to either monetarily or through our own donated time, moderate all incoming saves and all incoming comments to make sure they do not contain or link to any copyrighted material. (As opposed to the current upload first report later system)

Implying it won't give the US government tools to censor any website that contains content they do not like. (Wikileaks for example)

Oh Wikileaks can go kiss a beavers ass for all I care. No one needs to know that crap in the first place, and the only people who would want to know are conspiracy idiots, the same idiots who believe there's government cover-ups of alien bodies at area 52 or whatever. I'd be throwing a party if it was shut down. Why the hell does anyone need to know Boeing 737-200 maintenance manuals? "Oh, I'd, uh, like to, uh, sue Southwest because I read an article on Wikileaks that the planes are, uh, unsafe, and, uh, my, uh, my mom died bro. No, my other mom dude." There is absolutely no need to read anything on there.

Oh, I'm sorry, maybe I'm the only one who does that, not paying attention the government and their hideous lies. I was unaware that it was un-American of me to not care about what a spy, who by the way, is given the title of "spy" for a reason, records in another country.

I hate the bill, I completely agree and think the bill is stupid. I just hate all the stupid "protest" threads and blackouts people are doing instead of something more useful; like an actual real-life protest or actually calling the senators. The only reason I get pissed in these threads is because all damn day I see "SOPA this" and "PIPA that" and "Screw you congress" when no one is doing one damn really useful thing about it.

Implying raising awareness to those who're less technological savvy is a waste of time.

Right, "awareness" is defined as 500 new threads and videos created each day, each hideously misinformed about what the bill does (to be honest, I see maybe 1/20 of the threads having legitimate, correct information), mostly created because others are doing it and people don't want to be left out?

No, awareness is large printing in the forum news, or an organized video campaign. As it is now, I would really like to see the government shut down the entire internet, just to stop more people from posting.

"Hideously misinformed". Hardly, at most no more misinformed than those who support the bill.

How do you expect to become aware of a subject if you've never been exposed to it?
The only way for mass awareness to work is for many different channels of communication to discuss the issue.

Also, seriously... you want the government to shut down the internet just because you can't deal with a bunch of posts about the same subject.

It's a group of extremely wealthy corporations and well-intentioned but illogical politicians against an even larger group of even more wealthier corporations and well-intentioned but illogical politicians. I honestly am surprised the bill even got this far.

It's impossible to shut down the Internet!
    Right? Isn't it???

Theoretically, the internet can only be deactivated if every single entity with internet connection is destroyed or neutralized and all backups sabotaged. Not very easy considering it was designed to survive thermonuclear war. However, making it illegal to use the internet in a localized area well within the capabilities of the USA.
