@Chich(View Post) Because the devs aren't paid to code in realism. They tried realism. It failed. Anyway only so much realism can be coded in before it is either impossible to code in more or impossible to code in more without making it difficult to create any working mechanism in TPT. Please use the search bar next time and read https://powdertoy.co.uk/Discussions/Thread/View.html?Thread=8677 especially the fifth point mentioned. Also part of the lack of realism may be to prevent people from making things such as
No i mean a simple bong as an example to show the actual physics that work in a bong... that same physics can be used to create all types of machinery
so they just make random chemicals that dont behave like they do in real life.? why i always thought Powder was real.
..and whats wrong with a bong? it is a real thing
- Pour oil, light it.. Fire
- Water on hot metal...steam
Why not have everything realistic.... if they coded it to work the way it does...which is pretty good. then why cant they code it the same way, except with chemicals having a more real effect when contacting others....e.g C4 pressure wave, and metal.. same as glass.
@Chich(View Post) Because almost all of the saves made in the past will have a risk of being rendered inoperable. All electronics saves will be in extreme risk of breaking if realistic conductivity is implemented for example.
Not only that, some realistic things aren't as fun as things that aren't. Like we all know that when you put fire in a pipe, it wont come out the other way still just as powerful as before. it would either be smoke or air. TPT isn't meant to be realistic. There are a few realistic things in there, but TPT is supposed to be meant for fun.
@Chich(View Post) I'd like to take this time to point out that realism doesn't always equal fun. In fact, realism more often than not means a lot more work, both for the developers and the players. A player would have to learn every single chemical reaction, and under what circumstances the bonds could form, for example. And a developer...well...a developer has to code every single chemical reaction and under what circumstances they occur, enough said.
Furthermore, changes to old elements often result in saves being broken. For example;
Would you really like to see this save broken just because you want the metal to break?
Continuing, who ever said Powder Toy was supposed to be overly realistic? It's a toy. Note to self: there is no dust in real life that floats upward like ANAR, and solids do not float in mid-air. Powder Toy is more realistic than a lot of games, pride yourself knowing that air in Powder Toy works near-exactly the way it does in real life. Pat yourself on a back that you can see the colors of the photons refract in glass as so happens in the real world.Throw yourself a party that Newtonian Gravity is simulated, albeit a bit slowly.
it would still be fun for all those people that actually get excited from playing it. it would easily be more fun if it were realistic. all the other shit like you said dust and stuff thats not real, yea.. cool keep it all. keep that shit and add more shit thats not realistic, but fun. All im saying is that how is it fun when SIMPLE things that happen through common sense are not realistic? As i sad the C4 and metal.... are you sayin its FUN when the C4 does absolutley nothing explosive related anf just makes fireballs. Same as TNT etc.... i get wat you boiz are sayin, and agree with some of it.. but as i just said... simple stuff would be more fun if realistic.. like
- C4 example
- the bong (physics) - smoke travels through water and bubbles..
@Chich(View Post) We don't need bongs! TPT is supposed to be child-friendly, we can't just bongs everywhere. C4 is used in my electronic creations in close proximity to metal wire so realistic explosions would render those circuits inoperable.
