    have you tried playing in a different server or making a new seed? You also might have all mobs turned off. Cows are considered a mob. If that is the case, go to properties and turn mobs and passive mobs on.

    I have a lot of cows in my world. So cows are real.. What is very rare to see are mooshrooms. They are basically cows that you can get mushroom stew from milking them.

    The easiest way, as I see it, is just to build a new house closer to the cows... Or you could just push them around until they get to your house...
